Topic: Communicating During Change

We all know that clear communication is critical in times of major change. We regularly find ourselves in a state of flux, but some changes require our extra attention. How many of the following have you been through in the last five years?
  • a physical relocation
  • a shift in vision
  • start up or cessation of a significant program or ministry
  • a change in leadership staff
  • a capital campaign
Communicating early, regularly, consistently, and with clarity is central, but we all also know that it’s easier said than done. So, in preparation for this round-table discussion, please think through a recent or major change in your church. Then, come prepared to share:
  1. two or three specific communications successes that had a positive impact on the transition, and
  2. two or three communications failures that had a negative (or neutral) impact on the transition.
Examples might include:

scheduling successes or failures
terminology/word choice successes or failures
print material successes or failures
website successes or failures
teamwork (internal staff coordination) successes or failures
preplanning successes or failures
execution successes or failures
follow-through successes of failures
audience-awareness successes or failures

After our round table discussion concludes, Jill Taylor, executive director of PSC, will provide a guided tour of the new facility. Please feel free to stay for the tour as your schedule permits.
